February 29th, a day that only comes around every four years is the day Debbie got the call. The call to tell her the biopsy done two weeks earlier was cancer. The day that her entire life changed…

“My VERY first thought was “I have a 5 year old son. I can’t have breast cancer. I can’t die.”

Three weeks later, she was on the operating table to take out the lump found on her right breast. When Debbie woke, she was told the cancer covered a larger than expected area of my breast and they had to do a radical mastectomy. She cried from the fear, sadness and pain coming from her body… for a very long time.

When she finally realized she was going to live, she knew she wanted to somehow help other women dealing with breast cancer. In her search, she came across Diane Proulx’s story and decided to reach out to the CURE Foundation. For the next fourteen years her friends, family and colleagues helped her raise funds on National Denim Day.

It is organizations such as the CURE Foundation that gives women across the country hope and encouragement that a cure will be found for breast cancer. I am very proud to wear my pink CURE ribbon!
