CURE Advocate

Elia first contacted CURE in the Summer of 2018 to let us know that she would be running a 5KM marathon with her sister to honour the memory of her dear friend Marie Josée.

Marie had been diagnosed with breast cancer six years ago and fought a long hard battle before her passing last year.

Elia was among a group of friends who, along with her devoted husband, stood by Marie throughout her entire journey with breast cancer. “We were with her for all the big moments, like when she first got a wig. But the thing that was so incredible about Marie is that she was able to turn any challenging time into a celebration. It was something we experienced together and that made it special.”

Today, Elia continues to try her best to honour Marie’s memory by living life to the fullest. Part of that is taking on a new challenge this year, by increasing her running distance to 10KM. This movement, as she describes it, is contagious, as her team of runners has grown to 10 people. “Our goal is to double our fundraising efforts for CURE.”

Elia believes that it is through gestures like this that she can best share the positive impact Marie had on the world. “I know she is with us today and I’m so thankful to be living her memory by helping CURE.”

Thank you Elia for your ongoing support and dedication.
